The Silverdale Recycling and Garbage Facility is closed for construction from September 21, 2026, through April 1, 2027, according to Kitsap County’s facility notice. Before loading the car, identify what you are taking and check the receiving facility’s rules. A different destination may accept a different combination of materials.

Make a load list first
Use one line for each material: flattened cardboard, household garbage, scrap metal, an appliance, or something you cannot identify. Keep the uncertain item separate in your planning notes. The county notice links its Waste Wizard tool for item-specific disposal guidance.
Add three columns beside that list: accepted destination, preparation requirement, and the page where you verified it. This prevents a general recycling symbol or an old visit from becoming your only evidence that an item belongs in a particular bin.
Choose the destination before choosing the drive
The closure notice points residents toward Hansville, Olalla, and Olympic View facilities. Compare the current hours and accepted materials for the option that fits your load; do not carry Silverdale’s usual hours, fees, or restrictions over to another location.
For a mixed load, ask a practical question: can every item go to the same place? If the answer is unclear, resolve it before departure. A second stop may need a separate day or different preparation.
Keep a reusable trip note
Save the destination’s official page with your list, then check it again on the day you travel. Include the date you checked, the facility name, and any unresolved item. If someone else is driving, send that note rather than only a map pin.
The closure has a published end date, but the county’s current notice should decide when you return to Silverdale. Check for reopening updates before treating April 1 as a confirmed operating day.

Work through a mixed-load example
Suppose you have cardboard, a broken small appliance and leftover paint. Give each item its own Waste Wizard check and record the receiving site and preparation instructions. Do not assume one facility accepts the entire load. If the destinations match, check whether drop-off areas and hours also match. Share the item list with the driver; an uncertain item stays unresolved until the county instructions identify its route.
